Windsor Castle is the largest inhabited castle in the world and has been in continuous occupation for over 900 years. Now an official residence of HRH King Charles III.

Established in the 11th century by William the Conqueror, it has been remodelled by successive kings and queens, including Edward III, Charles II, George IV and more recently – our late Queen Elizabeth II who spent most of her private time at the Castle, which during her reign was also used regularly for ceremonial and State occasions.

The State Apartments

A walk through the State Apartments takes you on a journey through 1,000 years of royal history, from the medieval origins of the Castle to the present day. Many of these magnificent rooms were built for Charles II and are today the setting for State and ceremonial occasions.

Queen Mary’s Doll’s House

The largest and most famous dolls’ house in the world was built by the British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens and no detail was omitted. The house has a fully stocked wine cellar, flushing toilets, running water and working lifts, and is filled with thousands of objects made by the leading artists, designers, craftsmen and manufacturers of the time.

St. George’s Chapel

St George’s Chapel is one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in England. It is the spiritual home of the Order of the Garter and the final resting place of eleven monarchs, including Henry VIII and Charles I, as well as His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Framlingham Castle has passed through many hands and seen numerous architectural modifications during its long history.

Built in the 12th century by Roger Bigod, Earl of Norfolk, it was home to the Dukes of Norfolk for over 400 years. Surrounded by parkland and a picturesque lake, Framlingham Castle was once a stronghold of the powerful earls and dukes of Norfolk. Muster your courage to conquer the spectacular wall walk to admire stunning views over the town and countryside, and uncover stories of ambitious barons, a Tudor queen and Georgian poorhouse children as you explore centuries of history in the interactive exhibition.

Before our visit, we head to Snape Maltings for some free time.

Waddesdon Manor was built by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild in 1874 to display his outstanding collection of art treasures and to entertain the fashionable world.  

The 45 rooms on view combine the highest quality French furniture and decorative arts from the 18th century with superb English portraits and Dutch Old Masters.  

The Victorian garden is considered one of the finest in Britain with its parterre, seasonal displays, fountains and statuary. At its heart lies the aviary, stocked with species once part of Baron Ferdinand's collection.

We spend the morning in Saffron Walden, where it is market day. You will have free time to explore this historical town and its market before we make our way to Audley End House and Gardens.

The impressive house that can be seen today is only about a third the size of the vast mansion created in about 1605–14 by Thomas Howard, 1st Earl of Suffolk. It retains much of its original character, and contains fine Robert Adam and Jacobean revival interiors.

The gardens and landscape, shaped by various owners to complement the house, reflect many changes in English garden fashion.

Kensington Palace has been a favourite royal residence since the late 17th century when a small, suburban villa was extended and transformed by master architect Sir Christopher Wren. Queen Victoria grew up here, first met with her great love Prince Albert and learnt she had become Queen. More recently it was home to the late Diana, Princess of Wales and it is where her sons Prince William and Prince Harry spent much of their childhood. It is now the London base for the Prince & Princess of Wales, William & Catherine, and their three young children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Visitors can immerse themselves in the palace's history through the special exhibitions, walk through the re-imagined childhood rooms of Queen Victoria, take a tour around the King and Queen's State Apartments, or explore the world-renowned gardens.

Captured in time by its conservation status, the old wool town of Stamford, in Lincolnshire, retains much of its olde-worlde charm and prosperity. Many buildings have been built from local Lincolnshire limestone, giving the town a unique appearance. Next we continue to nearby Burghley House, one of the largest and grandest houses of the first Elizabethan age for a guided tour of the house and entry to the gardens.

Built and mostly designed by William Cecil, Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I, between 1555 and 1587, the main part of the House has 35 major rooms on the ground and first floors.

There are more than 80 lesser rooms and numerous halls, corridors, bathrooms and service areas. The lead roof extends to three quarters of an acre, restoration and rebuilding of which began in 1983 and took nearly ten years to complete.

Visitor facilities include the Orangery restaurant, gift shop, gardens and beautiful walks around the historic parkland laid out by Capability Brown and still occupied by a herd of fallow deer.

Step back in time with a delightful visit to Brodsworth Hall, a beautifully preserved country house offering a Yorkshire day out.

Frozen in time since 1988, the hall reveals fascinating stories of its past, while the restored gardens provide a colourful, family-friendly space to explore, with surprises and an outdoor play area for children. Enjoy exhibitions, meet knowledgeable volunteer room stewards, and relax in the tearoom in the servants’ wing.

Don’t miss the “Season of Flowers” exhibition celebrating floral displays and the people behind the gardens. Although the upper floors are closed, there’s still plenty to enjoy across this award-winning historic site.
