Friday 6th - Sunday 8th November 2020
A new weekend break to our fantastic Capital City. Join us as the Royal Family, and members of the public alike, pay their respects to the fallen of two world wars and many other conflicts around the world. London offers the visitor much to see and explore, lots of retail therapy searching for special Christmas presents, and countless choices for food and drink.
Day 1: From your local joining point we travel to London to arrive mid-afternoon at Hilton Euston Hotel for our 2 night stay on a bed & English breakfast basis.
Day 2: After an English breakfast the whole day is yours; there’s ample time to enjoy the sights or simply enjoy some of the great shopping that London has to offer. Today is also the day of the Lord Mayor’s Show which dates back to 1215, when King John granted a charter allowing the citizens of London to elect their own mayor. Every year since, the newly elected Lord Mayor of the City of London has travelled from the City of London to Westminster to pledge allegiance to the Crown. These days, the parade is more of a celebration than a show of loyalty. There’s plenty going on for the Lord Mayors parade, the day starts with the River Pageant. The glorious Thames Barges set of from Westminster at 8.30am and Tower Bridge will open in salute at 9.25am. The procession will set off from Mansion House at 11.05am, stopping at the Royal Courts so the Lord Mayor can swear allegiance and then return to Embankment at 1pm. The procession arrives back at Mansion House just after 2pm. The day then concludes with fireworks on the river at around 5.15pm. Alternatively, for those who wish to join us we will head to Covent Garden, returning back to the hotel late afternoon.
Day 3: Today is Remembrance Day. You will have an opportunity to either join the crowds lining The Mall to see the Royal Procession from Buckingham Palace or to visit the Cenotaph in Whitehall. (We will aim to drop you on the Embankment, traffic permitting). The National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in Whitehall is a unique expression of national homage devoted to all those who sacrificed their lives at war. The Queen and members of The Royal Family will lay wreaths in their memory with the sounding of The Last Post and Reveille. a true experience for all. We Will remember them. Later there is time for lunch and sightseeing before we leave in the afternoon for home.
