From here we have free time in Ryde, the island’s largest town, with an elegant esplanade, attractive Georgian and Victorian buildings, and a half mile long pier.
Day 3: This morning we include a 2 ½ hour cruise across the eastern Solent into the Portsmouth Naval Base, home of the Royal Navy, past and present. Following our cruise, we have free time in Cowes, the ‘Yachting Capital’ of Britain, with time to explore the narrow winding streets.
Day 4: This morning we make our way to the lovely village of Godshill. Upon arrival, we make the short walk to visit the Model village, set in the grounds of the Old Vicarage. Later we pay a visit to the garlic farm at Newchurch. We enjoy a tractor trailer tour through the fields and learn about garlic growing, the farm and surroundings.
