Sunday 27th September - Thursday 1st October 2020
Shropshire is one of the least crowded and most peaceful areas of England. Now one of the few remaining rural idylls, it has a long history of wild border conflicts which have left a legacy of atmospheric hill forts, earthworks and castles. Quiet Shropshire, but don’t be deceived; there’s still plenty to see and do, has over 90 places to visit, from historic houses and castles to visit, from historic houses and castles with beautiful gardens to the famous Ironbridge, museums and family attractions. Shropshire has many traditional market towns including gourmet Ludlow and the county town of Shrewsbury, almost surrounded by the River Severn, is the birthplace of Charles Darwin, and the town itself is a medieval delight of black and white buildings.
Day 1: Following your home collection, we make our way to Shropshire and the Mercure Shrewsbury Albrighton Hall Hotel and Spa for our four-night stay.
Day 2: We depart Shrewsbury station for a single journey to Llandrindod Wells aboard the ‘Heart of Wales’ Railway, reputedly one of the most scenic railway journeys in the UK. On arrival in Llandrindod Wells, we rejoin our coach for the short journey to Rhayader to see the impressive feeding of the Red Kites which takes place every day on Gigrin Farm.
Day 3: We travel via Wenlock Edge to historic Ludlow. Here we meet our guide for an informative walking tour of this historic town. Following some free time, we continue to Acton Scott Working Farm, here we learn of 19th Century farming practices using traditional skills and horse-drawn machines. Today, the Historic Working Farm offers a fascinating insight into rural life at the turn of the 19th century.
Day 4: This morning we enjoy a drive around parts of Herefordshire’s picturesque black and white village trail. Later we visit Berrington Hall. Standing proud and strong, this fine Georgian mansion sits within 'Capability' Brown’s final garden and landscape. Created as the perfect house in the perfect setting, Berrington Hall has many secrets for visitors to uncover.
Day 5: After breakfast we return to Norfolk making suitable stops en-route. Upon arrival our door to door service will be waiting to return you home.
