Friday 11th - Sunday 13th December 2020
Join us in the beautiful city of York, with its winding cobbled streets and dramatic cathedral, a perfect setting for a festive Christmas Market. This market unites a wonderful seasonal atmosphere, festive entertainment and the opportunity to start your Christmas shopping, with an excellent range of gifts. We also enjoy a visit to Beamish, the open air living museum of the North, which tells the story of life in the North East of England during the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s. This break is the perfect way to enjoy some festive traditions of a bygone era combined with the seasonal festivities of today.
Day 1: Joining the coach from a convenient local joining point, we travel to Durham and the Marriott Royal County hotel, for a relaxing two night stay on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis.
Day 2: We visit Beamish to discover the amazing seasonal sights, sounds, smells and delicious tastes of Christmas past. Experience the magic of a traditional Christmas as you join the celebrations at 1820s Pockerley Old Hall, The 1900s Town and Pit Village, and the 1940s Farm. Taste scrumptious seasonal cooking and be amazed as your favourite parts of the museum are beautifully decorated for the festive season. Savour the aroma of delicious home-baked goods cooking on the range, listen to merry music and try your hand at traditional crafts. From Georgian times right the way through to the 1950s, be immersed in an enchanting Christmas through time at Beamish.
Day 3: After breakfast, we depart and head for York. You may wish to Meander through the magical market stalls of St Nicholas fair & soak up the festive atmosphere, as you discover fine Yorkshire produce from crafters and makers showcased at the Made in Yorkshire Yuletide Village. If you’re looking for more traditional Christmas gifts, don’t forget to wander amongst the many alpine chalets on Parliament Street. Head down to Kings Square or sample festive food and drink at the St Sampson’s Square rustic Yorkshire Barn with delicious treats including hot chestnuts and glasses of warming mulled wine. We depart mid afternoon to continue our journey back to Norfolk.
