Saturday 30th November 2024
Let's put a festive spin on one of our most popular day trips as you enjoy a relaxing two hour canal cruise through the Peak District onboard The Judith Mary, where a delicious lunch is included.
Soon after leaving Whaley Bridge, the boat will navigate its way through the last section of the Upper Peak Forest Canal built in 1800 which is carved out of the sides of a mountain which overlooks the valley of the River Goyt. You will be travelling in a north westerly direction through outstanding countryside, with magnificent views of the mountains all around. The canal is higher than the railway in the valley, and passes villages and towns like Bridgemont, then onto picturesque Furness Vale Marina to New Mills taking in the impressive Kinder Scout, at 631 metres this is the highest plateau in the UK and here the boat will turn and make its way back to Whaley Bridge.
Later in the afternoon we make our way to Bakewell for free time to explore the town.
The menu for this trip will be Hot Roast Turkey Sandwiches served with Roast Potatoes, Stuffing, Pigs in Blankets and Mince Pies and Cream for Dessert.
