Thursday 15th – Tuesday 20th July 2021
A wonderful mix of rail and loch, this great new Scottish holiday takes you on a nostalgic steam journey. Based at the popular Winnock Hotel in Drymen, you will enjoy a steamship cruise on Loch Katrine, a trip on the Falkirk Wheel and a journey on the Bo’ness & Kinneil steam railway.
Day 1: Following your home taxi collection, we continue the journey to our hotel in Drymen for our 5 night stay on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis.
Day 2: Today’s excursion takes us into the Trossachs. Enjoy a 2-hour relaxing cruise on lovely Loch Katrine as you watch the natural wonder of the beautiful countryside gently slip by. We have also included lunch at a waterside restaurant overlooking the loch in all its glory. Today’s visits will also include a stop at Aberfoyle’s Woollen Mill.
Day 3: The iconic Falkirk Wheel is the world's only rotating boat lift which connects the Forth & Clyde and Union canals. It was constructed to replace a series of 19th century lock gates and is the showpiece of the Millennium Link project which re-established coast-to-coast navigation of the canals. You will make the ascent and descent through the wheel with the entire boat trip lasting approx. one hour. We continue to Bo'Ness station for a round trip on the heritage Bo'Ness & Kinneil steam railway with a traditional afternoon tea served on board.
Day 4: This morning we make our way to Balloch for a cruise up loch Lomond to Luss where we will have free time. This afternoon we have arranged a Tea Dance on board the Steamship Maid of the Loch (The boat remains moored). The Maid is a magnificent example of Clyde-built ship engineering with a stunning art deco inspired interior. The much-loved paddle steamer is static and permanently moored on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, attracting thousands of visitors each year with a loyal band of volunteers hoping to re-launch her one day.
Day 5: Today we have a scenic drive around the Trossachs National Park stopping at Callander - known as the gateway to the Trossachs National Park. From here we make our way to Killin to view the spectacular Falls of Dochart, before returning early afternoon to our hotel for some relaxation before dinner.
Day 6: After a hearty breakfast we return to Norfolk, making suitable stops en route. Upon arrival, our door to door service will be waiting to return you home.
