Wednesday 5th - Tuesday 11th May 2021
Set in the Grampian Highlands with its striking granite skyline lies the vibrant city of Aberdeen, ideally placed to enjoy Royal Deeside and a visit to Balmoral Castle.
Day 1: Following your home taxi collection, we make our way to the Gretna Hall hotel, Gretna for our overnight stay on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis.
Day 2: After breakfast, we depart our overnight hotel for Stirling, the site of Scotland’s great battles of independence. See the Wallace Monument, magnificent Stirling Castle (entry included) plus the quaint cobbled streets of the Old Town. Following our visit here, we continue to the Aberdeen Altens Hotel Hotel of our four night stay.
Day 3: Depart hotel for Huntley via Inverurie to Dean's Shortbread Factory. Witness the famous shortbread being created before browsing the gift shop. We continue to Fyvie Castle for an included visit. This is an extraordinary Baronial fortress with lavish interiors and a world famous art collection. Ghosts, legends, and folklore are all woven into the tapestry of Fyvie's 800-year-old history. But stories aside, we do know William the Lionheart was at Fyvie around 1214 and later Robert the Bruce and Charles I were among its royal guests.
Day 4: Today is a day at leisure in Aberdeen to enjoy the wealth of parks, gardens, museums, galleries and much more. Buses operate regularly from the bus stops located outside the hotel.
Day 5: We enjoy a visit to the iconic Balmoral Castle. The castle is one of two personal and private residences owned by The Royal Family, unlike the Royal Palaces which belong to the Crown. Balmoral has remained in The Royal Family since it was purchased for Queen Victoria by Prince Albert in 1852, who were so enchanted by the Highlands. En-route to the castle we stop at Crathie Church for a photo opportunity. A small parish church, this is where The Royal Family worship while staying at Balmoral. After our visit we travel to Banchory and a short, but delightful journey on the Royal Deeside Railway. This heritage railway is in a beautiful setting and runs alongside the River Dee.
Day 6: After breakfast, we make our way to Blairgowrie, Perthshire’s second largest town, Blairgowrie sits on the banks of the River Ericht for some free time to explore. We continue to Gretna and the Gretna Hall Hotel, for our overnight stay.
Day 7: After a hearty breakfast we return to Norfolk making suitable stops en route. Upon arrival our door to door service will be waiting to take you home.
