Wednesday 7th - Thursday 15th September 2022

Every autumn throughout the Alps, the valleys begin to chime with the clang of cowbells. The traditional 'Almabtrieb' (literally meaning 'driving down the mountain') is one of the main highlights of the Tyrolean festival calendar and marks the closing of the high alpine pastures after a summer of grazing in the mountain meadows. Experience this time-honoured Tyrolean tradition as herds of cows, beautifully decorated in lavish floral headdresses, form a spectacular procession as the village takes on a colourful, carnival atmosphere.

Day 1: A taxi picks you up from your door and then by coach we travel to Folkestone for the Eurotunnel to Calais. We continue the journey to our overnight hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2: After breakfast, we continue the journey through Europe to arrive at the Sport Hotel in St Anton for a six-night stay.

Day 3 – 7: We have included 3 excursions and two days at leisure, which includes a St Anton card for the free use of cable cars on one day

Feldkirch & Liechtenstein
We head to Western Austria and the town of Feldkirch. Situated on the banks of the turquoise Ill River, at the foot of wooded mountains, vineyards and a castle-crowned hill. Explore the well-preserved old town, which wings you back to late-medieval times with its cobbled, arcaded lanes, towers and pastel-coloured townhouses. We continue to one of the smallest countries in Europe today, Liechtenstein. We stop in the capital Vaduz, where there will be the opportunity to visit the Liechtenstein National Museum, which gives a fascinating insight into the history of this little country. (payable Locally)

Cows Down Festival
It’s the day of the ‘Cows Down’ traditional festival today so it’s a free day to watch the cattle procession pass through St. Anton. The herds are dressed in spectacular headdresses as they are brought down to the valley for the winter. Peruse the market stalls, filled with wonderful produce in honour of the event.

Hohenschwangau Castle & Fussen
This morning visit King Ludwig’s childhood home, Hohenschwangau Castle with its richly furnished interiors, exuding a more ‘lived in’ feel. Spend the rest of the day in Fussen with an included boat cruise on the lake.

Silvretta Pass
With our guide, we travel to Ischgl, where we have a morning coffee break and soak up the atmosphere in this lovely little ski resort. We continue our day driving through glorious scenery to the Silvretta Reservoir, from where we can view Piz Buin, the highest mountain in Vorarlberg. Following a break here we travel over the Silvretta pass to Bludenz. The Silvretta- Hochalpenstraße is considered to be one of the most beautiful panoramic roads in the Alps. It is 22.3 km long with a total of 34 hairpin bends. The scenery on this high road is simply unforgettable and a real highlight of the holiday. We round our day off at the Suchard Chocolate Factory shop, which contains a selection of all the chocolates manufactured at the factory in Bludenz.

Day 8: We say farewell to the Sport Hotel and travel to our overnight hotel in time for dinner.

Day 9:
After breakfast, it’s time to head back to Calais for the Eurotunnel to Folkestone. Continue the onward journey back to the local area where our door to door service will be waiting to return you home.
