Day 2: This morning we journey into the South Downs National Park, where we visit the Weald & Downland living museum. On the site there is a heritage blacksmith, craft demonstrations, a Tudor kitchen, a mill and traditional working farm. You may also recognise it as the venue of the BBC’s Repair Shop. With over 50 historic buildings & period gardens, the museum truly allows you to immerse yourself in the past and experience over 1000 years of history. This afternoon we continue to Arundel where we meet a local tour guide who will give us a walking tour of this beautiful old town. Following our tour you will have time at leisure to explore. Charming, stylish and full of history, the picturesque market town of Arundel is probably most famous for two stunning landmarks - Arundel Castle and Arundel Cathedral. Arundel Castle is a stately home and fortified castle that towers over the town offering great views of the Sussex countryside. There's also a calendar of events throughout the year offering something different for every visit. The Cathedral was originally the Church of St. Philip Neri and only renamed in 1965 leaving Arundel as one of the only cathedral destinations not classified as a city. (attractions in Arundel subject to individual choice and payment). Alternatively, you may wish to shop at independent boutiques, antique markets and art galleries or eat out overlooking the River Arun in one of Arundel’s pretty waterside pubs, cafés and restaurants.
Day 3: Our day takes us east to the cathedral city of Chichester. One of the most charming and stylish cities on the South Coast, the historic cathedral city of Chichester combines all the attractions of a thriving urban centre with the remains of Roman streets, walls and gateways. Why not use the time to visit the 600-year-old Cathedral with its striking arches and stained glass windows, or maybe wander around the attractive high street or the peaceful Canal. This afternoon we then visit Bognor Regis. The resort is flat and has an excellent promenade walk. There is a pier and a delightful park- Hotham Park, which boasts a narrow-gauge railway and boating lake. You can discover more about the town and its history in the Bognor Regis Museum which is located on the High Street or for the book lovers, Heygates Bookshop is a must see. No trip to Bognor would be complete without sampling its traditional fish and chips.
Day 4: This morning we head a short distance to Portsmouth where we arrive at the Emirates Spinnaker Tower – the stunning 170-metre icon of the South Coast and Britain’s best viewing tower. You will receive a voucher for Cream Tea which you can use at any point during the day. This delicious treat will offer uplifting views from the sanctuary of The Clouds café, 105 metres above the ground. We also include a general admission ticket which means you can explore The Tower at your leisure. This iconic attraction boasts a high speed lift and three sky-high viewing decks. You can venture across the thrilling glass ‘Sky Walk’ at 100 metres above sea level; discover stories behind the surrounding sites with informative touch screen displays or breath in the view from the open air ‘Sky Garden’.
The rest of the day is yours at leisure in Portsmouth. Being England's only island city and a fascinating centre for maritime history, you cannot fail to be amazed on a visit to Portsmouth especially its Historic Dockyard which is just bursting with tales to tell of times gone by. Portsmouth Harbour Tours are the best way to explore the Dockyard as you come up close to Lord Nelson's famous warship the HMS Victory. Another highlight is the Mary Rose Museum. Here you can find out more about King Henry VIII's famous warship, its crew and see a wonderful collection of artefacts recovered from the wreck site after the Mary Rose sank in 1545. (attractions subject to individual choice and payment)
