Day 1: Joining the coach from one of our convenient local joining points, we travel to The Esplanade Hotel, our home for the next 4 nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. There will be entertainment each evening.
Day 2: This morning we head north, following the coast road to Whitby, a town that offers something a little different to your ‘typical’ coastal resort and will no doubt surprise you when you visit. Famous for its connections to Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Whitby has always embraced its association with Gothic culture which is reflected in the town’s quirky streets, shops and Abbey ruins. When you visit you can explore ornate cobbled paths, locally-owned shops and quirky cafes that give Whitby it's intriguing yet welcoming atmosphere, making it a great place to visit. Being by the sea you’ll also get to enjoy classic seaside fun and food with locally caught crab & lobster as well as sandcastle building and walks along the pier! Whitby is also a place for explorers, with connection to the famous voyager Captain James Cook. The great man is immortalised in a monument up on West Cliff, where he can be seen looking out to his favourite place – the sea. You can also learn more about his life and journeys in Whitby at the Captain Cook Memorial Museum (entrance not included).
After lunch, we depart for the picturesque village of Goathland famous as ‘Aidensfield’ in the TV series ‘Heartbeat’ before returning to our hotel.
Day 3: A day at leisure to explore. Scarborough is Britain’s oldest seaside resort and is the perfect haven to unwind. Set in an area of unsurpassed natural beauty, it has two golden sandy beaches, a bustling harbour, an ancient castle and stunning cliff-top views. Beautiful Victorian architecture is dotted throughout and its charming Old Town has fantastic eateries, boutiques, independent shops and amusements. Be sure to stroll along the colourful seafront and soak up the relaxing atmosphere
Day 4: This morning we depart for the ancient and historic City of York. There are so many things to see and do – The National Railway Museum, The Jorvik Centre, The Castle Museum, stroll around the City Walls, wander around the excellent shops, explore the many quaint little alleyways, and, of course, no visit to York is complete without seeing magnificent York Minster. (attractions subject to individual choice and payment)
