Sunday 3rd - Thursday 7th March 2024
Discover the beautiful Yorkshire coast with a Scarborough coach holiday – it’s the original seaside resort featuring glorious beaches, scenery and an array of compelling, historic attractions. Wander along the beachfront and call it at the shellfish stalls, chance your hand in an amusement arcade or pull up a deckchair and enjoy an ice cream from one of the local parlours – this is seaside heaven! Scarborough’s far-ranging appeal is one of many great aspects about this lovely UK seaside town, and its many attractions and glorious beachfront are reason enough for thousands of tourists to return year after year.
On the tour we also visit the magnificent Castle Howard Gardens as well as the seaside town of Whitby, with its quirky cobbled streets, famous 199 steps to the Gothic Whitby Abbey, and connections to Captain Cook and Dracula. There will be time to relax in our Scarborough base as well as joining us on a visit to chocolate-box York. This Yorkshire staycation ticks all the boxes!
Day 1: Following your home taxi pickup we travel north to our hotel in Scarborough for our 4-night stay on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis.
Day 2: This morning we make our way to Thornton-le-Dale for some free time in this picturesque village, before making our way to Castle Howard Gardens. The house itself stands within 1000 acres of parkland and formal gardens, where peacocks roam. To the north, the ground falls away to a large lake, and to the south, formal gardens share space with more water features and several glorious follies. As one of Britain's grandest estates, it has featured on screen and is well known as the filming location of Brideshead Revisted and more recently Bridgerton.
Day 3: Today we head to historic York where we have a guided panoramic coach tour of the city. After our tour, there will be plenty of free time to visit the many attractions that York has to offer. Founded by the Romans and featuring the magnificent 13th century York Minster at its centrepiece, the city features some breath-taking architecture, make sure you bring a camera! With quaint cobbled streets and welcoming taverns alongside its vibrant café scene, York offers the perfect contrast of old and new.
Day 4: Our excursion takes us over the moors to Whitby. This charming little fishing town has a fascinating past where you can admire the ruins of St Hilda's Abbey and uncover the stories of the famous Captain Cook and Dracula. After lunch, we then return over the moors to Gothland. This bracing moorland village has attracted visitors since the 19th century, but numbers soared following its appearance (as 'Aidensfield') in the television series 'Heartbeat' and its role in the 'Harry Potter' films
Day 5: After breakfast we head to historic Lincoln for free time before returning to Norfolk, where our door to door service awaits to return you home.
