Where better to embark on a northern adventure than Northumberland? Bursting with history and stunning landscapes, there's so much to see and do here, and no visit is complete without exploring the Northumbrian Coast. Famed for its golden sands, quaint villages and impressive castles, including extraordinary Bamburgh, this stretch of coastline is known as ‘one of England’s best kept secrets’ and it's easy to see why.

Venture further inland and you’ll discover a wealth of must-see sights and attractions. We also visit charming Holy Island. This pint-sized island is brimming with pubs and cafés, and there’s even a coastal castle for you to uncover!

This spectacular region is a must-visit!

Day 1: After joining the tour from your local joining point we head North to Alnwick, arriving late afternoon at the White Swan Hotel for our 3 night stay on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. Dinner this evening will be followed by entertainment.

Day 2: Today’s excursion takes us to the north of Northumberland across the causeway to Holy Island where you may wish to visit the mysterious Lindisfarne Castle (fare to the castle not included). On our return we have free time in the village of Bamburgh. Whilst here why not visit the mighty castle on the beach, or head into the Grace Darling Museum. (attractions today subject to individual choice and payment) NOTE: The crossing of the causeway to Holy Island is governed by tide times. It may be necessary to amend this excursion. After dinner tonight there will be Bingo or Quiz entertainment.

Day 3: After a leisurely breakfast we journey along the Northumberland coast, making our first stop in the pretty harbour of Seahouses. This colourful fishing village has a bustling harbour, a number of shops, and some of the best fish and chips in Northumberland. As well as the wonderful wildlife and coastline, Seahouses is known for its history surrounding iconic Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) figure Grace Darling. She and her father took a rowing boat out to sea from Seahouses and managed to save many people after the Forfarshire fishing boat crashed into rocks. An RNLI lifeboat at Seahouses bears the name Grace Darling in her honour. Seahouses’ fishing past lives on at Swallow Fish, who have been smoking on site since 1843. Visitors are also welcome at The Fisherman’s Kitchen, where historic fishing memorabilia and curios are displayed alongside the local catch-of-the-day.

After enjoying some free time here we make our way back to Alnwick where you have some free time to explore this historic market town. Visiting Alnwick, pronounced to sound like ‘anick’, is like stepping into a fairytale, where you can dine in the twinkling treetops of one of the world’s largest treehouses, marvel at the beauty of Alnwick Castle, and visit a sleeping Giant at The Alnwick Garden. Don't miss Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery, which holds over 10,000 years of history in its charming stone walls. Based in Alnwick's Castle Quarter, it was previously a church, meaning you can admire its beautiful architecture while you discover artefacts, photographs and audio visual displays that showcase fascinating stories through time.

Just a short walk through Alnwick’s winding cobbled streets and past the archway of Bondgate Tower, the only remaining chunk of the town walls, will take you to Barter Books. Settle into an armchair by the open fire and grab yourself a coffee as you immerse yourself in the literary world while toy trains chug above you. (attractions in Alnwick subject to individual choice and payment)

Before dinner tonight we enjoy a Gin Tasting.

Day 4: Sadly this morning we depart our hotel and head back to Norfolk and our local joining points.
