Dunoon is impressively situated on the western of the Firth of Clyde where Loch Long and Holy Loch join the sea, it is built around the historic Castle Mound and is most famous for its large Victorian pier.

The stunning town boasts some lovely gardens, two bays, and a flat promenade – perfect for that most traditional of seaside occupations, strolling along the prom!

The highlight of the holiday is a visit to the magnificent, unique and fascinating Inveraray Castle, the ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll (Featured in Downton Abbey as Duneagle Castle). As you enter the famous Armoury Hall you will see some 1300 pieces including Brown Bess muskets, Lochaber axes and 18th century Scottish broadswords. The fine State Dining Room and Tapestry Drawing Room contain magnificent French tapestries which were woven especially for the Castle, fabulous examples of Scottish, English and French furniture and countless other precious artworks. The castle’s priceless collection of China, silver and family heirlooms spans generations which are illustrated by the fascinating genealogical display in the Clan Room. In addition to this, the castle’s beautifully maintained garden and expansive estate offers some fantastic beautiful walks.

Day 1: Following your home taxi collection we join our luxury tour coach and head North. We will skirt around Glasgow and along the banks of the River Clyde, before arriving in Gourock, where we board the ferry for our short crossing to Dunoon. We arrive early evening at the Argyll Hotel for our 5 night stay on a dinner, bed & breakfast. Entertainment will be provided on three evenings during your stay.

Day 2: This morning we depart our hotel and take a scenic drive through some of Scotland’s most beautiful scenery. Skirting Loch Eck, we make our way to the Glencoe Valley. No description can re-create the impact of seeing Glencoe for the first time. It has long been one of the most loved places in Scotland, and what is Glencoe famous for? It’s known equally for its awe-inspiring views and sorrowful past – it is a place of history, wildlife, adventure and myth. The mountains were formed through violent volcanic eruptions, and then sculpted by massive glaciers. We continue our day with a visit to Fort William. This bustling resort is set in a beautiful location, at the foot of Ben Nevis, overlooking tranquil Loch Linnhe. From dramatic hills to iconic films locations, castles and distilleries, there are plenty of things to do in Fort William. Take your time and explore the natural wonders of Lochaber, breathe the fresh mountain air and marvel at some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.  We have some free time here before heading back to our hotel.

Day 3: A spectacular sightseeing tour today. We start by journeying to Tarbet on the shores of Loch Lomond where we will enjoy a 1 hour cruise. We will sail over the deepest part of the Loch in the shadow of Ben Lomond and take in the fjord-like northern Loch Lomond landscape. Later we depart and make the journey to the lovely little white-washed town of Inveraray. Inveraray is the ancestral home to the Duke of Argyll and is situated on the western shores of Loch Fyne. There is time for a look around and obtain a drink and bite to eat before our afternoon visit to the magnificent, unique and fascinating Inveraray Castle, the ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll (Featured in Downton Abbey as Duneagle Castle). In addition to this, the castle’s beautifully maintained garden and expansive estate offers some fantastic beautiful walks

Day 4: Today is free for you to explore Dunoon. Impressively situated on the western of the Fifth of Clyde where Loch Long and Holy Loch join the sea, Dunoon is built around the historic Castle Mound and is most famous for its large Victorian pier. Why not make your way into the town, take a pleasant walk along the promenade, enjoy lunch and relax and watch the world go by.

Day 5: This morning we have a sightseeing drive around Bute, after crossing by ferry from Colintrave to Rhubodach, ending with a visit to the superb Mount Stuart House. Set in 300 acres of landscape and woodlands, the house is known as Britain’s most spectacular Victorian Gothic House. It is an architectural fantasy of the 3rd Marquis of Bute. Set 5 miles south from Rothesay this is an ideal way to end the tour, the house and grounds offer the visitor much to see.

Day 6: After breakfast we make our way back to Norfolk making suitable stops en route. Upon arrival, our home taxi service will be waiting to take you home.
