Day 1: Following your home taxi pickup we travel north to our hotel in Scarborough for our 5-night stay at the Park Manor Hotel on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis.
Day 2: This morning we make our way to Thornton-le-Dale for some free time. The thatched cottage by the babbling beck in Thornton le Dale is one of the best-loved sights in the whole of the National Park. This highly picturesque village, centred on a tiny triangular green with its old market cross and stocks shows you the best of the surrounding valleys and woods, and there are ample pubs and cafes in which to grab a morning coffee. We then make our way to Castle Howard. One of the premier stately homes of England, Castle Howard is a baroque masterpiece, more palace than house, conceived by Charles Howard, 3rd Earl of Carlisle, and executed by Sir John Vanbrugh from 1699. The house stands within 1000 acres of parkland and formal gardens, where peacocks roam. The setting is idyllic, but it is the house itself that draws the eye. Castle Howard is centred on a striking dome, with two wings enclosing a courtyard. To the north, the ground falls away to a large lake, to the south, formal gardens share space with more water features and several glorious follies. Admire the awe-inspiring architecture and world-renowned collections and uncover more about the rich 300 year history of the Howard family and the estate. As one of Britain's grandest stately homes and the largest house in Yorkshire, the house has featured on screen and is well known as the filming location of Brideshead Revisted and more recently Bridgerton.
Day 3: Day at leisure. Scarborough is Britain’s oldest seaside resort and is the perfect haven to unwind. Set in an area of unsurpassed natural beauty, it has two golden sandy beaches, a bustling harbour, an ancient castle and stunning cliff-top views. Beautiful Victorian architecture is dotted throughout and its charming Old Town has fantastic eateries, boutiques, independent shops and amusements. Be sure to stroll along the colourful seafront and soak up the relaxing atmosphere.
Day 4: Today we head to historic York where we have a guided panoramic coach tour of the city. After our tour, there will be plenty of free time to visit the many attractions that York has to offer. Founded by the Romans and featuring the magnificent 13th century York Minster at its centrepiece, the city features some breath-taking architecture, make sure you bring a camera! With quaint cobbled streets and welcoming taverns alongside its vibrant café scene, York offers the perfect contrast of old and new.
Day 5: Our excursion takes us over the moors to Whitby. This charming little fishing town has a fascinating past where you can admire the ruins of St Hilda's Abbey and uncover the stories of the famous Captain Cook and Dracula. Later we enjoy a heritage rail journey through the Moors to Pickering. The North York Moors heritage railway is one of the best in the world and takes you on a journey through the heart of the national park and offers spectacular scenery and a taste of a bygone era.
