Day 1: You will be picked up from home by our door-to-door service and taken to the coach for the journey southwest to Devon, arriving at our hotel late afternoon for 5 nights dinner, bed & breakfast.
Day 2: We make our way across the South Hams to the historic maritime town of Dartmouth. This delightful town has narrow streets, overhanging medieval houses and old quays, as well as breath-taking views across the Dart Estuary. On our return to Torquay, we will make a brief stop in the ancient town of Totnes. A quaint, historic little market town, this area truly is a sight to behold. You can find everything here, from stunning countryside, to fascinating historical buildings and amazing views.
Day 3: This morning we travel into the Teign Valley to Dawlish. This delightful town is centred around The Lawn and Brook, which is home to the famous black swans. After some time here to explore we make the short journey to the resort of Teignmouth, a stunning coastal town with historical Georgian buildings and long sandy beaches. We cross the River Teign at Shaldon to follow the coastline to Kents Cavern. Kents Cavern is one of the most important Stone Age sites in Europe and one of Britain's best showcaves! On your visit you'll go back to a time when the cave was home to ancient humans, sheltering from extreme weather, making fires, shaping tools and hunting Ice Age animals. As you walk through the extensive labyrinth of caverns, you'll be surrounded by 400 million year old rocks and spectacular stalagmites and stalactites. On our arrival we have a one hour guided tour of the caves followed by a cream tea, before retuning to our hotel.
Day 4: Day at leisure to explore Torquay and enjoy the hotel facilities. With its iconic palm trees, busy harbour, international marina, sandy beach and wonderful array of continental style cafes, restaurants and cocktail bars there is plenty to see and do.
Day 5: After breakfast, we make our way to Buckfast to visit the 12th century Abbey and its beautiful grounds. Home to a community of Benedictine monks, Buckfast Abbey lies on the banks of the River Dart. Here, we have the chance to explore the Abbey church with its art treasures, wander the tranquil gardens or browse the gift and produce shops. We continue our day with a visit to the pretty fishing port of Brixham, a maritime treasure with a busy fishing port. Here you can wander the maze of narrow streets or visit one of the many cafes around the harbour and watch the world go by.
