Day 1: Following your home taxi service you board our luxury tour coach and head north to County Durham and our hotel for the next four nights, the 4 star Redworth Hall Hotel on a dinner bed and breakfast basis.
Day 2: This morning we embark on a picturesque journey aboard the Teesside Princess, cruising through the tranquil countryside, along the twists and turns of the River Tees, until we reach the cobbled town of Yarm, famous for its location on the River and the awe-inspiring railway viaduct. We will enjoy a lunchtime stop here before we visit Preston Park Museum. The estate is set in 100 acres of beautiful parkland overlooking the River Tees. The museum has displays of art, armour and social history. Visitors can discover what life was like in the home from 1825 and stroll back in time along a typical local street of the 1890s where the museum’s resident traditional craftspeople can be found at work. As well as the museum, Preston Park also has a range of permanent attractions including exotic bird life in the aviary and wildfowl pond and many riverside and woodland paths.
Day 3: After a leisurely breakfast we make our way to the Beamish Museum Open Air Museum. The fascinating and ever-popular living museum of Beamish gives us the opportunity to discover the amazing industrial heritage in the North of England. From the 1940s farm to the early 20th-century Pit Village, we take a step back in time as we meet costumed characters and catch a tram through The Town; a typical market town from the years leading up to the First World War.
Day 4: Today we are joined by a guide as we journey through railway history. We begin with a visit to the Head Of Steam, a newly restored centre commemorating 200 years since the first train set off in 1825. The Stockton & Darlington was by no means the first railway, but its opening in 1825 marked a very significant step in the development of railways by bringing together two features for the first time: the concept of a public railway, available to all, and the use of steam locomotives.
This momentous event led to the development of nearly 15,000 miles of passenger lines over the next 40 years. Next, we head to Shildon and Locomotion - the National Railway Experience, home to some sixty locomotives from the National Collection., including George Stephenson's Locomotion No 1.
Day 5: Sadly today we head back to modern times as we make our way back to Norfolk where our door to door taxi service will be waiting to return you home.
