Day 1: Following your home taxi collection you will board our luxury tour coach and we will make our way north to Lancashire, and our hotel for the next four nights, the 3 star Foxfields Country Hotel, on a dinner bed and breakfast basis. Tea/coffee &biscuits will be served on our arrival whilst our luggage is taken to our rooms.
Day 2: Today we are joined by our knowledgeable guide for a visit to the beautiful Browsholme Hall and gardens. The Hall was built in 1512 and has been the ancestral home of the Parkers, Bowbearers of the Forest of Bowland since Tudor times. Today it is still the family’s home and Robert and Amanda Parker invite visitors to enjoy its magnificent architecture, fabulous interiors, antique furnishings and lovely gardens. Visitors will not only view the remarkable antiquarian collection but gain the genuine atmosphere of an historic family home. Superb oak chests, Gillow furniture, portraits, porcelain, civil war arms and many unique relics including mementoes of Bonnie Prince Charlie and even a fragment of a Zeppelin reflect the continuous occupation by the Parkers for over 500 years. This afternoon we have a short drive to Riley Green Marina. Here we join the boat for a relaxing and peaceful cruise along the canal, with afternoon tea served on the way.
Day 3: Today we are once again joined by our guide as we enjoy a full-day guided tour of Pendle Hill Country, hearing about the infamous witches. Downham was the setting for the 1961 film Whistle Down the Wind and also TV’s Born and Bred. We call at Barrowford Visitor Centre for a break before heading over to Pendle Hill on our way to Clitheroe for a lunch break. The day continues with a drive through the Britain in Bloom village of Chipping and on into the Hodder Valley. We take a break at the riverside tearooms in Slaidburn before heading back to the hotel.
Day 4: This morning we begin with a ride along the Ribble Valley to Longridge and north to the city of Lancaster. During our visit you could visit Lancaster’s castle and museums to uncover the city’s ancient stories hidden in its walls and buildings or spend time on the high street or watching the world go by in a café or a park. This afternoon we journey back making a stop at the magnificent Samlesbury Hall, a half-timbered medieval house built in 1325. We will explore the 700-year-old house from the parlour to the Great Hall, discovering its secrets like the hidden priest hole, used for hiding Catholic priests in Elizabeth I's reign, and learning the story of Janey the (alleged) witch.
Day 5: Sadly this morning we depart our hotel and travel back to Norfolk making suitable stops en route. Upon our arrival, our door to door taxi service will be waiting to take you home.
