Day 1: You will be picked up from home by our door-to-door service and taken to the coach for the journey southwest to Devon, arriving at our hotel late afternoon for 7 nights dinner, bed & breakfast.
Day 2: Today we have a day at leisure to use the facilities that the hotel has to offer or spend time looking around Torquay. Be sure to stroll around its bustling picturesque harbour, or why not take a boat trip to enjoy the view from a different perspective (not included). Torquay’s many landscaped gardens and scenic walks are the perfect way to spend your time here.
Day 3: Today we have a full-day tour that begins with a drive over Dartmoor to Tavistock. This ancient stannary town is the only town in Devon to hold world heritage status. The vibrancy and uniqueness of Tavistock is undeniable with a range of beautiful local independent shops which are a far cry from today's typical high street. Not to be overlooked is the famous pannier market or the award-winning farmers’ market. After time to explore, we head across wild and rugged Dartmoor to Princetown. After lunch, we head to Moretonhampstead and the famous House of Marbles. You will explore a history of glass and watch master craftsmen at work from the viewing platform inside the working glassworks on site. There will also be time to look through the collection of board games, marble games and bagatelles from the early 1600s in the site’s games museum for a true sense of nostalgia.
Day 4: Today our destination is Plymouth. With its rich maritime heritage and status as the regional capital for culture, Plymouth is one of the most dynamic and fascinating places to visit in Devon. You can get incredible views of Plymouth from Smeaton’s Tower, and don’t forget to pay a visit to the Barbican, a bustling array of specialist shops, restaurants, cafes and world-class attractions, all set against the backdrop of the picturesque harbour.
Day 5: After breakfast, we make our way to Buckfast to visit the 12th century Abbey and its beautiful grounds. Home to a community of Benedictine monks, Buckfast Abbey lies on the banks of the River Dart. Here, we have the chance to explore the Abbey church with its art treasures, wander the tranquil gardens or browse the gift and produce shops. We continue our day with a visit to the pretty fishing port of Brixham. Life in the busy fishing town of Brixham has always centred around its pretty harbour, where yachts and heritage trawlers jostle for space. There’s plenty to see and do here with the town’s many fish restaurants dotted around the harbour, cosy cafés and quaint old inns to help you soak up the local atmosphere.
Day 6: This morning we head for Totnes where we join the dart river cruise for a single journey to Dartmouth. Upon arrival you will have free time to explore this delightful maritime town with its narrow streets, overhanging medieval buildings and old quays, as well as its breath-taking views across the Dart estuary. We then join the Dartmouth steam railway for a journey back to Paignton where our coach will be waiting for you. The Dartmouth Steam Railway runs for seven miles in Great Western tradition along the spectacular Torbay coast. The scenery is superb, with seascapes right across Lyme Bay to Portland Bill on clear days.
Day 7: Today is a day at leisure.
Day 8: After breakfast, we depart Torquay for our return journey back to Norfolk making suitable stops en route. Upon arrival our door to door service will be waiting to take you home.
