Day 1: After an early morning taxi collection we join our platinum executive tour coach and head to Kent for our crossing to France. Upon our arrival, we continue our journey through France, Belgium and into the Netherlands and our hotel for the next 4 nights, the Hotel Walram on a dinner bed and breakfast basis.
Day 2: This morning we make our way to the Valkenburg Caves where we have an included guided train tour of the pre-historic municipal cave in the centre of Valkenburg. Valkenburg is full of quarries and caves, and this is one of the best! Believe it or not, the Municipal Cave in Valkenburg covers over 110 hectares! The cave is filled with limestone that used to be extracted by the Romans, but now you can admire the vast cave space covered in shells and other art! Tip: The caves stay around 12 degrees, so make sure to bring a jacket with you! The remainder of the day is at leisure to relax and explore Valkenburg’s quaint cobbled streets and pretty buildings. Situated at the crossroads of three countries, Valkenburg has long been a favourite destination on account of its exuberance and extremely varied appeal. Valkenburg, or 'the Marlstone Town' as it is known locally, is famous for its castle. Explore the quaint cobbled streets and beautiful buildings of this enchanting fortified town, or alternatively, relax with a glass of the local white beer.
Day 3: This morning we travel to Maastricht, the capital of the Limburg region. On arrival we include a 1 hour cruise through to the Belgium border, before returning to the city centre. This beautiful old city lies on the River Meuse and has a wealth of historic buildings, stylish shops and fine bars and restaurants.
Day 4: This morning we cross into Germany and continue through the fantastic countryside of the Eifel Mountains to the small town of Monschau. Time has stood still in this gorgeous small town, and it has virtually remained untouched over the past several centuries, full of half-timbered buildings as if it was torn from the pages of a fairy tale book. If you adore old-world charm, Monschau has it in spades. The town is situated on the banks of the river Rur and overlooked from opposite hillsides by the ruins of a stone watchtower and an old palace. Linked by a series of bridges, the town’s restaurants and shops lead up to the town centre where a charming church proudly stands.
We later make our way to the historic city of Aachen, where you have time to explore the stunning old town. Aachen is famous for its magnificent cathedral and the Elisenbrunnen fountain, which is also the symbol of the town.
Day 5: This morning after a leisurely breakfast we head back through Belgium and France to Calais for our crossing back to the UK. Upon our arrival we continue back to Norfolk where our taxi Service will be waiting to return you home.
