Day 1: Following your home taxi collection, you will join our platinum tour coach and we will head to Dover for our channel crossing to France. We continue our journey to our overnight hotel in the Dijon area of France, making suitable stops en route.
Day 2: After breakfast we continue our journey south through ever changing scenery. We cross the border into Spain arriving at the Costa del Maresme and the 5 star Hotel Kaktus Playa in Calella for our 6 night stay on a dinner bed and breakfast basis. A welcome cocktail will be served on arrival whilst your luggage is taken to your room.
Day 3: Today is a day at leisure in Calella to explore and enjoy the hotel’s facilities. Calella's atmospheric old town offers a labyrinth of typical Catalan streets and squares filled with bars and shops, including an extensive pedestrianised shopping zone, running parallel to the attractive sea-front promenade and glorious wide beach with its many open-air beach bars.
Day 4: This morning we visit Tossa De Mar. Situated on the southernmost part of Costa Brava, in the region of Catalonia, this pretty little village with its narrow cobbled lanes, quirky boutiques, rustic restaurants and fortified castle is a photographers paradise. The castle was built in the 12th century and the stone walls enclosing its historic neighbourhood date from soon afterwards. A significant amount remains, not only of the walls but also of the towers that they connect. You can walk up the castle right from the beach, and there are lovely cafes on the castle grounds.
Later we stop in Lloret del Mar, where you have the chance to explore the narrow streets of the Old Town, take a walk along the promenade, and maybe visit the church of Sant Romà
Day 5: Todays excursion takes us to Besalu - a wonderful medieval town, considered to be one of the most beautiful towns in Spain. As you enter across its eleventh century fortified bridge you will be enchanted by the medieval town that awaits you. You will feel like you have stepped back in time as you explore the narrow paved streets, old stone buildings and the little pottery shops.
This afternoon we head to the charming city of Girona. With its medieval walls, narrow winding streets, and one of the best preserved Jewish Quarters in Europe, it is a beautiful place to spend the afternoon. One of the highlights of a visit to Girona is a visit to the Girona Cathedral which dominates the skyline. Perched on top of a hill, the only way into the cathedral is to climb the long staircase to the entrance. Fans of the small screen may recognise it as one of the filming locations on Game of Thrones. The city itself outside of the main tourist quarter is a joy to stroll through. Here you can browse small shops, have coffee in one of the many street cafes, or just wander the city.
Day 6: Our excursion today takes us to the Mediterranean city of Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia. Whilst here, we include a guided tour of the city. Starting by coach, the tour takes you past many of the famous sights of the city to ensure that you see all of the important places of interest. You can admire the unusual scenery of the Eixample district as well as the huge Olympic stadium, scene of the great athletic achievements in 1992. We finish the tour on foot at the bustling Las Ramblas, the iconic street in the centre, which runs from the Plaza de Catalunya to the Christopher Columbus monument near the harbour at Port Vell. Here you can explore the cafés and see the mime artists, and from here you will be ideally situated to explore independently the Barri Gotic, or Gothic Quarter in the centre of the Old Town, where some of the buildings date back to medieval and Roman times. Make sure you take a photo stop at the extraordinary Sagrada Familia, a very unconventional church, whose construction is still being finished today.
Day 7: Today is a day to relax and enjoy Calella before meeting up before dinner this evening for a farewell Sangria and tapas.
Day 8: Sadly today we depart our hotel and retrace our steps through Spain and back into France to our overnight hotel, making suitable stops enroute.
Day 9: We continue our journey through France to Calais for the mid-afternoon crossing to Dover. We return to Norfolk where our door to door service will be waiting to take you home.
