Day 1: From your chosen joining point we will make our way to Telford, stopping enroute in Coventry. While here, you could explore the rich tapestry of the past by visiting some of our city’s key landmarks including St Mary’s Guildhall or Coventry Cathedral. You may wish to discover the history of the British motor industry by exploring Coventry Transport Museum and The British Motor Museum. We then continue to our hotel for the next 3 nights, the Telford Hotel and Spa, on a dinner bed and breakfast basis.
Day 2: This morning we visit the impressive Ironbridge Gorge, where the world’s first iron bridge forms the centre of this World Heritage Site. Ironbridge Gorge is known throughout the world as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Nature has reclaimed most of the former industrial sites, leaving a unique and beautiful wooded valley. The gorge is a now a maze of footpaths, bridleways and country lanes. The former homes of the Victorian Iron Masters and their workers can still be found in the communities around the Gorge. After a break in Ironbridge village, we make our way to Blists Hill Victorian town. This 52-acre site is a bustling recreation of a Victorian town. See curious products in the Chemist, Grocers and Drapers, discover what life was like for a housewife in the cottages, enjoy a drink in the New Inn, a portion of delicious fish and chips, or a bag of old-fashioned sweets.
Day 3: Following a leisurely breakfast, we travel to the Black Country Living Museum. Covering 26 acres of former industrial land, the Black Country Living Museum is uniquely placed to tell the story of the creation of the world’s first industrial landscape. Over fifty authentic shops, houses and workshops have been carefully reconstructed to preserve the character of the region when its manufacturers bought worldwide fame to Black Country Towns. Take a trip on the tram to explore the canal-side village, where you can meet and chat to the costumed characters. Explore the underground mine and experience the authentic sights, sounds, smells and tastes from the past. If you’re a fan of ‘Peaky Blinders’, you may recognise the museum as many scenes were filmed here!
Day 4: Sadly this morning we depart our hotel and make our way to Stratford upon Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. The town bursts with Shakespearean attractions, from his birthplace to his grave, which can be found in the grounds of Holy Trinity Church. Alternatively, you could enjoy a pleasant stroll along the banks of the River Avon, visit the shops in the town centre or relax in one of the tea rooms and watch the world go by. Later we rejoin our coach and head back to Norfolk and your local joining points.
