Day 1: Following your home taxi collection we make our way to the Skiddaw Hotel in Keswick for our five night stay on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis.
Day 2: This morning we make our way to Bowness. The centre of Bowness is made up of quaint alleyways and streets where you will find enticing gift shops, chic delis and atmospheric pubs. You may wish to visit The World of Beatrix Potter (entry not included). Whilst we are here we have included a one hour circular cruise on Lake Windermere. From here we stop in Grasmere. Nestling at the foot of some spectacular fells and with its own lake, this village has many shops, pubs and cafes. You can also visit Wordsworth's grave in the churchyard and buy the legendary Grasmere Gingerbread.
Day 3: Today we enjoy the highlight of the tour, the famous ‘High Adventure’! The ‘Mountain Goat’ minibuses take us where large coaches cannot go. This is a wonderful day, taking in the mountain passes of the Western Fells – Wrynose Pass, the desolate Duddon Valley, and the stunning Hardknott Pass. See the lonely Roman Fort as we descend into Eskdale for a ride on L’al Ratty – the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, before seeing Wastwater – voted Britain’s favourite view. From here we return via the southern fells. This tour is a chance to see the real Lake District!
Day 4: Explore Keswick at leisure. This pretty market town offers a wide range of attractions for visitors, from shops and restaurants to museums with a difference, and boating trips around Derwentwater.
Day 5: This morning we visit Dalemain House, near Penrith. Behind Dalemain’s orderly frontage are the remnants of a 12th-century pele tower and an Elizabethan manor, and during our exclusive guided tour we trace its roots back to the reign of Henry II. There is much to discover inside; a helter-skelter of secret passages, spiral staircases, a priest’s hiding hole, as well as Chippendale furniture and priceless oil portraits. Our 'Secret Dalemain' tour also includes access to unseen areas of the house along with tea and scones served in the Medieval Hall tearoom. Outside, we can explore a Tudor knot garden and a splendid rose walk, and don’t miss the World’s Original Marmalade Shop!
This afternoon we head into Carlisle. Perhaps head up to Carlisle Castle which is also home to the Border Regiment Museum, or maybe explore the Cathedral. Carlisle is also home to a number of high street and independent shops, as well as a large variety of cafes and restaurants. (attractions in Carlisle subject to individual choice and payment)
Day 6: After breakfast, we depart for our return to Norfolk. Upon arrival, our door to door service will be waiting to return you home.
