Valencia - This cosmopolitan city offers a vibrant atmosphere and is rightly regarded as one of the most beautiful cities of Mediterranean Spain. This World Heritage Site has plenty to offer, with its splendid Baroque and Romanesque architecture, the City of Arts and Sciences complex, with futuristic structures including a planetarium, an oceanarium and an interactive museum, Valencia Cathedral, the charming Turia Gardens and of course, its many splendid beaches.
Take time to explore some of Valencia’s small cobbled alleyways and discover cosy, romantic pavement-cafes, enjoy a traditional meal of paella and maybe have a glass of horchata de chufa or Agua de Valencia. Delicious!
In the city centre you can also find the Silk Exchange -one of Valencia’s most beautiful buildings, with its idyllic Patio de los Naranjos courtyard full of orange trees.
Upon our arrival we will be met by a local guide (included) to show you all the highlights of the beautiful city on foot, before having the rest of the day at leisure to explore.
Denia - This little beach town on Spain’s Costa Blanca has a typically Spanish feel – there’s the thousand-year-old castle in the town centre, rustic seafood restaurants along the beach and colourful fishing boats bobbing in the harbour. There is another side to this place, though – the cosmopolitan marina is dotted with bars and cafes, and there are designer boutiques along the tree-lined Carrer Marques de Campo.
For those who wish to visit, the 16th century castle has been extensively restored and inside, houses a small archaeological museum. It also has pleasant gardens to explore, and from here, you have excellent photo opportunities!
Altea - Nestling between the sea and the mountains sits a little slice of paradise on the Costa Blanca. Altea is a peaceful seaside town where time seems to have stood still. A destination that really epitomises the best of the Mediterranean lifestyle that is locally known as the cúpula del Mediterráneo, which refers to the striking blue dome of the town’s main church. This beautiful town houses some of the area’s best tapas restaurants, which are a must visit when staying on the Costa Blanca. The town’s medieval cobbled streets, pretty old quarter and palm-lined esplanade are also a delight to explore.
Alicante – Located in the heart of the Costa Blanca, Alicante has a beautiful beach, a marble-paved esplanade and a restaurant-and-bar-studded marina on its doorstep. Alicante’s architecture ranges from Medieval to Modernist, and one of its most recognisable buildings is Santa Barbara Castle. It’s been around since the 9th century, and one of its main draws is its views, thanks to its hilltop position overlooking the city and sea. There’s plenty for history buffs to get stuck into here, too – the city’s home to intriguing spots like the Archaeology Museum and Bullfighting Museum. For a change of scenery, head to one of Alicante’s parks for a stroll. Parque de la Ereta is a top choice if you’re looking for the best views of the city – its winding hillside paths lead up to the base of Santa Barbara Castle. Meanwhile, on the other side of town, the peaceful Parque el Palmeral is packed full of palm trees, pretty wooden bridges and water features.
Torrevieja – Torrevieja has a selection of beautiful sandy beaches, salt flats bursting with bird life, historic sites and a huge variety of Spanish and international restaurants to enjoy. Historically, it’s been known for its fishing trade – and you’ll see boats heading out from the harbour even now. Salt is its other forte, and there are chalky-white pans and vast, colourful lakes on the edge of town. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches here, as Torrevieja’s coastline is peppered with postcard-worthy beaches. The long promenade of Torrevieja links the Playa de los Naufragos beach in the south up to Playa de la Mata in the north. El Cura beach is situated at the center of Torrevieja, making it one of the more popular strips of holiday sand. This Torrevieja beach is backed by the promenade, with a good selection of bars, cafes and restaurants.
In the centre of Torrevieja you will find a long pier stretching out into the sea with some of the best views in Torrevieja. This wooden walk way is a beautiful spot to take a walk and you’ll have a great view of the Mediterranean on one side and the marina on the other side. From the start of the pier to the lighthouse at the end and back is 2.5km so a nice flat walk on a sunny day.
Guadalest – Guadalest offers a charming and authentic taste of traditional Spanish village life. With its stunning natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and fascinating history, Guadalest is the perfect destination for a day trip from Benidorm. Known as the “Eagles Nest” due to its strategic location high up in the mountains, Guadalest has a history that dates back to the Moorish era. The village is characterized by its narrow streets, white-washed houses, and breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes.
The journey to Guadalest itself is a real treat, as you’ll be treated to panoramic vistas of the Mediterranean Sea and the rugged mountains along the way. Once you arrive in Guadalest, you may wish to explore its enchanting medieval castle or maybe head to the old quarter which is only accessible by foot. Don’t miss the rock tunnel and admire the spectacular views over the lake from the belltower which clings to the rock face.
Cartagena - a historical port town set right on the Mediterranean Sea. It’s one of the biggest names in the Murcia region and a popular boarding spot for local cruises because of its naval back story. In fact, its rich history dates right back to Roman times, and these days, there’s an extra dash of art and culture. You can find historical sites and artefacts all across the city, including the Teatro Romano de Cartagena – the hidden Roman Theatre – or the Castillo de la Concepcion medieval castle, which is topped off with colourful gardens. Don’t forget to sample the local tapas – there’s a host of bars and restaurants down by the port that do some of the best dishes in the city.
