Day 1: Departing from one of our convenient local joining points, we make our way to Melton Mowbray. The town has a royal heritage that goes back to Richard the Lionheart and is home to Stilton, Red Leicester Cheese and of course the famous Melton Mowbray Pork Pie. Maybe head inside Melton Carnegie Museum to see on original pie oven, grab a pie at Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe or visit the Anne of Cleves pub. Later on, we continue our journey to Yorkshire, arriving at the Best Western Plus Craiglands Hotel for our 3-night stay on a dinner, bed & breakfast.
Day 2: This morning, we head for Harewood House, one of the Treasure Houses of England, set in the heart of rural Yorkshire. When Edwin Lascelles started building Harewood House in 1759 he wanted nothing but the best for his new home. He employed the finest craftsmen of the time: York-born architect John Carr, fashionable interior designer Robert Adam, England’s greatest furniture maker Thomas Chippendale and visionary landscape gardener Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown. As you walk round the House, you can see Renaissance masterpieces, exquisite family portraits by Reynolds, Gainsborough, Lawrence and Richmond, as well as a fine collection of Sèvres china, among many other delights.
There are over 100 acres of gardens at Harewood, full of variety, with plants from all over the world. Harewood’s Head Gardener, Trevor Nicholson, oversees the award-winning landscape, and his aim is “to put Harewood at the top of the list as a place for garden-lovers to visit.” He manages projects on the dazzling range of gardens at Harewood, including the Terrace, the Lakeside Garden, the Himalayan Garden and the Walled Garden.
This afternoon we return to the pretty town of Ilkley where you can explore at your own pace or perhaps enjoy a visit to Betty’s Tearooms!
Day 3: Happy Easter!
This morning we head north for our guided tour of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. We make our first stop in the market town of Skipton where we have time to look around the town and enjoy a coffee break. We then head into the heart of the Dales making stops in the villages of Grassington, Hawes and Wensleydale as we explore this picturesque area.
Day 4: Sadly this morning we depart our hotel and head to the City of Lincoln for some free time. Take a stroll through the Strait, climb Steep Hill or perhaps visit the stunning Cathedral. Later we make our way back to Norfolk and our local joining points.
